Occupational Medicine

Occupational medicine, until 1960 called industrial medicine, is the branch of medicine which is concerned with the maintenance of health in the workplace, including prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries, with secondary objectives of maintaining and increasing productivity and social adjustment in the workplace. It is, thus, the branch of clinical medicine active in the field of occupational health and safety.  The DiGiovanna Family Health and Wellness Center works to ensure that the highest standards of occupational health and safety are achieved and maintained in the workplace. While Occupational Medicine may involve a wide number of disciplines, it centers on preventive medicine and the management of illness, injury, and disability related to the workplace.  The DiGiovanna Family Health and Wellness Center has providers with a wide knowledge of clinical medicine and are competent in a number of important areas.  There are contextual links to physical medicine and rehabilitation and to insurance medicine.  Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine employs a form of physical medicine to patients with musculoskeletal injuries, including those with work-related injuries.  Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is employed to correct skeletal and joint motion disturbances caused by impaired or altered function of related components of the somatic(bodywork) system including: the skeletal, arthrodial, and myofascial structures, and their related vascular, lymphatic, and neural elements.
